Through a series of documentary and artistic photographs, the exhibition highlighted the often marginalised realities of amateur, street, and neighbourhood football. This photographic work pays tribute to those for whom football is not a commodity, but a form of community expression, a passion passed down through generations, and a vehicle for resistance and identity.
The images captured by Marta bear witness to the human, aesthetic and social richness of these alternative forms of football: makeshift pitches, improvised stadiums, passionate supporters, and authentic gestures. They tell the story of a football far from the spotlight, yet rooted in life, popular culture and inclusion.
By hosting ‘Futebol de Tostões’, we aimed to celebrate the living heritage of grassroots football, to offer critical and poetic perspectives on how we play, support and love this sport. And, above all, to honour the communities that keep it alive through their engagement, in the shadow of the major institutions.
